The battle of Stiklestad in 1030 is a famous battle in Norwegian history. It is where the Viking king Olav Haraldsson fell in the battle against local chieftains and was later declared Saint Olav. The Battle of Stiklestad is considered an important event in the consolidation of national kingship and the Christianisation of Norway.
Stiklestad is a great place to see and experience history. Most famous is the large outdoor theater "Spelet om Heilage Olav/The play about St Olav," which is linked to events surrounding the battle. The play is performed annually during the festival "Olsok days of Stiklestad" in late July. During the festival Stiklestad is teeming with activity and you can enjoy concerts, plays, guided tours, excursions, lectures and activities for the whole family. You can also visit the medieval market where you can experience medieval music, juggling and theatre. In tents and stalls you will find craftsmen from across the country in contemporary clothing demonstrating their crafts.
During the summer there are daily adventures for young and old during the "Stiklestad Summer". At the medieval farm Stiklastadir you can step back 1,000 years in time and at the folk museum you can watch the maid Dortea and experience what life was like 100 years ago in the travelling theatre "Gårdimillom". Enjoy temptations from our café in Molåna or visit the restaurant "Bard" in the cultural centre/hotel.
There is also is also a cultural centre at Stiklestad with exhibitions, musem shop, restaurant/café and meeting/conference facilities that is open all year.
