The objective of ISTA is to be a forum for collaboration and consultation for those involved in history- and saga-related tourism in this period of time: museums, exhibitions, heritage sites, man-made structures, festivals and the sites of certain sagas. ISTA also aims to increase cooperation on publicity, quality and professional standards with over 80 partners all over Iceland. The most visited partner sites like Thingvellir (a UNESCO heritage site), with 0.5 million visitors in 2013. ISTA works closely with Iceland Tourist Board and Promote Iceland. ISTA has received support from Leonardo da Vinci Lifelong Learning Programme three times. ISTA publishes and distributes tourism brochures in the whole of Iceland in 4 languages and manages the website of the association. ISTA has been working on developing several Saga-Trails in Iceland in cooperation with others.
Destination Viking is a new travel experience concept. Partners from a number of countries have come together to develop a borderless tourism destination focusing on the Viking world.
Quality is a key word for Destination Viking - as a visitor you expect quality at every level, and we will deliver it. Quality means quality of activities, quality of presentations, quality of workmanship, quality of sites, quality of food, quality of souvenirs. In short: quality experience!
