Frederikssund Vikingespil

FREDERIKSSUND VIKINGESPIL
Each summer in late June and early July it is the Viking Age in Frederikssund. About 250 adults and children put on Viking garments and let the beautiful open-air stage form the framework of a theatrical performance recreating the colors, people and drama of the Viking Age.

The Vikings in Frederikssund now have over 60 years of experience and the annual open air play has long since gained a reputation as one of the big events of the summer. An unforgettable experience for the entire family with drama, dramatic sword fighting, clashing swords, fighting women - war and love, light effects and torchlight processions and the traditional horn blowing.

It is not without reason that Frederikssund is proud of its name: Viking town. For 60 years, active people have performed Viking plays every summer, and this has made the town and Viking myths known in many parts of the world.

Frederikssund Vikings have performed for an international audience, and have been invited to guest performances in for example Iceland, Japan, Spain, Scotland, England, Argentina, Syria, Hungary and Poland at specially organized Vikings games.

Frederikssund Viking settlement is an open-air museum, which is usually free of charge to enter for visitors.
This means there is no permanent staff of tour guides on site. Knowledgeable tour guides can be booked at the Tourist Information Centre though. The Viking settlement consists of five pit houses, ie small half-buried houses that served as workshops and in some cases also as temporary housing, and a longhouse serving as permanent housing.
